The CQC last updated their ratings of the care home in February 2017, giving it an overall rating of good. People told us they were involved in their care planning. People were referred to other health professionals for further advice and support when assessed needs indicated this was appropriate. Documentation reflected the advice of health professionals.
The profile score is a measure of how much information has been provided. Ratings are provided by Care Quality Commission and reflects the most recent report for this care home, which was published on 4 February 2017. The Care Quality Commission has monitored Freckleton Lodge since September 2015.
Care provided
The home provides 24 hour personal care and accommodation for up to 30 older people. All bedrooms and communal areas are accessible on the ground floor. Cross and Passion Convent East Holme, 19 East Beach, Lytham, FY8 5EU ★★★☆ Cross and Passion Convent is a medium size care home located in Lytham, with 16 beds. Cross and Passion Convent accepts elderly with dementia. Additionally, the facility is able to support people with physical disabilities.
During the inspection we also spoke with a visiting health professional to ascertain their views on the service provided. – the service is performing badly and we've taken enforcement action against the provider of the service. The new paperwork for the plans of care made information easy to find.
Care Support Services
Following the inspection in October 2016, the registered provider sent us an action plan outlining how they intended to make the required improvements. The action plan indicated improvements would be made by May 2017. The relatives we spoke with were very happy with the care provided at the home.
People told us they were supported to maintain their hobbies and interests if this was part of their assessed and funded needs. Relatives told us they were consulted and involved in their family members care. People we spoke with confirmed they were involved in their care planning if they wished to be and they were asked to consent to their care. We reviewed the information and data available to us about Croft House Rest Home on 8 December 2022.
Angels Private Home Care
We discussed this with the registered manager who took action to remedy this. Prior to the inspection concluding we saw windows were appropriately secured. Staff told us they received regular supervisions and appraisals to ensure training needs were identified. Two staff told us they felt they would benefit from a one to one meeting with the registered manager at the point of their appraisal. We passed this to the registered manager for their consideration.
These helped to identify shortfalls and led to service improvement. However parts of the home were still in need of attention. A smart and well decorated environment would enhance the general well being of those living at the home.
The home is in the centre of Freckleton village, close to shops, a library and public transport. Bedroom accommodation is situated over two floors and there is a stair lift. There are three lounges plus a conservatory used for dining. Croft House is a 22 bed residential care home providing 24 hour personal care to the elderly at an affordable price for all.
Staff we spoke with told us they had the time to support people in a calm and relaxed way. Before our inspection on 15 October 2018 we completed our planning tool and reviewed the information we held on the service. This included notifications we had received from the provider, about incidents that affect the health, safety and welfare of people who received support and information from members of the public. In addition, we contacted the local funding authority and asked them their views on the service provided.
We found the provider had taken steps to ensure the premises were adequately maintained. We also reviewed some of the quality assurance systems at the home. Staff received regular support from the management team to ensure training needs were identified. We found staff received appropriate training to enable them to meet peoples' needs. Staff told us further training was available if they requested this. We saw recruitment checks were carried out to ensure suitable people were employed to work at the home, however this did not record any gaps in employment.
SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. This was as people could communicate their views on the service to us. – there are some services which we can’t rate, while some might be under appeal from the provider.
People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises and the care provided, and both were looked at during this inspection. Quality assurance checks were carried out to ensure areas of improvement were identified, however did not always identify if improvements were required.
They are always busy and you have to ask them things in passing or they will sit with you when they have time'. Another person told us, 'Too many old people here for me, I just want to be at home. I stay in the bedroom because there's nothing for me to do, but they do come and check on me to see I'm alright'. The registered manager told us they were committed to improving the service they provided and they wanted people to be happy at Croft House Rest home and receive high quality care. We spoke with four people who received support and three relatives. We did not use the Short Observational Framework for Inspection .
